It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
