The January recruitment period is typically a period of feverish rumour and potential big-money moves. Several prominent stars find themselves linked with transfers out of their current clubs. Here is a look at a selection of the key figures who might be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to reach the AFCON, this has left the player in contention, reports suggest a major transfer is close. This Bournemouth attacker has a deal with a £65 million release clause applicable for a two-week window in early January. Latest developments indicate the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Former suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have moved on to alternative options, potentially opening the door for teams such as Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late move.

M. Guéhi

The English centre-back has impress for Palace this season a summer transfer to Liverpool collapsing. With his contract due to run out in the summer, January is the London club's last chance to secure a fee for their captain. A host of elite sides, such as City and multiple continental powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to be interested. Furthermore, there are rumours from Spain that he would be prepared to take a pay cut for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This veteran German shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barça under the manager Hansi Flick. Having lost his place and undergone surgery, a January departure looks increasingly likely. Villa were once mentioned as a possible suitor, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly expressing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This proven English striker has kept finding the net frequently in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could boost his dwindling chances of being in the England squad. With his existing deal nearing its end, a host of English clubs – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the developments. Juventus are eager to secure the 20-year-old to a lengthy agreement but are in a race to keep one of Europe's brightest young talents.

Kees Smit

This much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has earned comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. After starring at the U19 Euros, he has broken into the AZ first team. The teenager is heavily tipped to make a big-money transfer in January. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing strong competition from Real Madrid for a signing valued at around £22 million.
